“Goodbye, Belts and Pins and Discomfort:” Later Pad Developments

Improvements in sanitary pads enabled these products to compete with tampons, and then filled the gap left in the fallout from Toxic Shock Syndrome. Consumers expected pads to have greater absorbency and more secure fit.  A perfect menstrual product has yet to be developed, however. As with previous advancements in design, new developments continued to disappoint women for a variety of reasons, including environmental concerns.  As a result, some women are returning to cloth pads as an environmentally friendly solution.
