“Infinitely Finer:” Aspiration and Advertising

Many magazine advertisements for menstrual products were aspirational in nature. They promised a more glamorous, carefree life for women who switched to disposable products. Many ads carried the same message: modern feminine hygiene was a necessary part of a glamorous lifestyle. Advertisements in women’s magazines suggest that the product embodied beauty, glamour or excitement.  Usually, these advertisements don’t even depict the product,, only the result users can expect: the pads or tampons will work so well and feel so comfortable that women can forget about their period while they enjoy life.
